YMCA Las Vegas Family Activities plus a Free Week Trial

I am always so blown away by all the family events that the YMCA has. They are so much more than just a gym and pool area, friends.

Mark your calendar for the 3rd Friday of every money because it is Family Night! This is at all the YMCA Las Vegas locations. They provide the space and family friendly activities. You  know, like games, crafts, movies and seasonal festivities. I was checking out the calendar and they have planned through May 2023! That makes the planner in me so happy! If you want to check out some of the Family programs the Y has to offer in the coming months, be sure to check it out here

Now we know that you love your littles and the Family Nights are amazing, but let's face it, alone time is amazing too! Sometimes it is forgotten with all the daily to-dos going on. The YMCA wants to help
you out with the kids while you take a much needed Parents' Night Out. Oh yah, the Y understands how important it is so they offer 2 nights a month. The 2nd and 4th Friday of the month! Your little one ages 3-12 will enjoy themed games, crafts, science experiments, movies, swimming and so much more. This is only $10 per kiddo but really rejuvenating your relationship after a long week is priceless! Want additional info on Parents' Night Out? Be sure to check out the link here. I wish I knew about these events when my kids were little.

If you are looking for different workout classes be sure to download the YMCA app. I get notifications keeping me in the know about my favorite Y facilities, which I love. I can see the schedule, sign up for workout classes (not mandatory), and they even have workout videos that you can do from home, right on the app. I just recently noticed the app has a progress chart, keeping track of my goals, workouts and I can join challenges with others. It really is a little community right at your fingertips.

If you haven't checked out the YMCA Las Vegas, what are you waiting for?!? Here is a week trial just for you. Click on this link and fill out the info. You will be glad you did.
Let's make 2023 a year to remember.

Babysitting Training Course for Teens at the Y

I am just blown away by all the different things the Las Vegas YMCA offers! They have events for Families, Parents, Hikes and so much more.

Calling all teens! This one is for you!

The Skyview YMCA is offering 2 American Red Cross Babysitter's Training courses in the next couple of months!

This training course will help provide youth that are planning on babysitting with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. They will become certified in pediatric CPR and First Aid when they pass the written and practical exam. This training is designed for kids ages 11 to 15.

The American Red Cross Babysitter's Training course will help participants develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business; keep themselves and others safe; help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid.

I wish I knew about a training like this when I was a teen. I would have loved to turn my babysitting the neighbors son into a real business. That would have been amazing! It might be too late for me, but if you are teen (or know one) be sure to check it out. You can click this link to sign up or get additional information.

The next 2 courses at Skyview YMCA in Las Vegas are on:

November 11, 2022 - Nov 12, 2022 and

December 9, 2022 - December 10, 2022.

So Much Going on at the Las Vegas YMCA

I can't even believe that that kids are back in school, it feels like they just got out for the summer. It is time to get back into the swing of things, new routines, new school activities, and fall sports.

The YMCA offers so much more than just a place to workout and classes. They offer Parent' Night Out, Hikes at the Mountains, Family Nights and so much more.

Let's check out some of the fun happening in the next few weeks.

Did you know that the YMCA has fall sports offered right at the Las Vegas clubs. It's true!

With a Youth or Family Y Membership, your kids can enjoy group exercise classes like Y Kids Play, Bootcamp, Yoga, Hip Hop, Circuit Training and more. All of the classes are age appropriate and taught by instructors specializing in children’s fitness. In addition to free member activities and classes, the Y also offers fee-based youth sports programs, including basketball, baseball, soccer, martial arts, gymnastics, dance and more.

Take a Hike with the Y:

Grab your cameras, hiking shoes, plenty of water and even a snack. They are meeting at Mount Charleston this Saturday, August 27th from 10am -12pm.  Not only will you be getting some exercise, meeting new friends, but you will be able to identify and document different plants in the area. It's like a treasure hunt. How fun is that!

YMCA: Reverse Toy Drive 2020

Calling all Vegas peeps! The YMCA has teamed up with Dreamr to host a FREE "Reverse Toy Drive" this Sunday, December 20th, from 9 AM - 3 PM at Heritage Tattoo.

This is Dreamr way to thank the community for their support and spreading some joy during the holidays for what has been a tough year for everyone, especially all the kids stuck inside!

If you have children in your family and need a little extra help putting presents under the tree this year, you're invited to drive-thru! Check out this link for more info on this amazing event.

What is a reverse toy drive?

  • Typically, an organization would have people bring toys to them so they can redistribute to children directly or in partnership with a local charity. This is the opposite!
  • Parents can drive down, stay inside their cars, and when they arrive let the dreamr team know how many kids they have.
  • Next, parents will pull up to our canopy, pop the trunk, and someone from the dreamr staff will place toys inside the trunk that can be wrapped and given to their children.

When & Where:

  • When: Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 9am-3pm
  • Where: Heritage Tattoo (This is a drive-thru event, wear a facemask and stay inside your car!) 3827 E Sunset Rd, Unit J, Las Vegas, NV 89120
  • Who: If you have kids and could use help putting some extra presents under the tree this year, please drive-thru!
Be sure to head over here for more details on this event!

Y Family Time: Bringing Families Closer

Every month that I am part of the YMCA I am in awe of services that are provided that I wasn't even aware of. Not only does the YMCA have great workout machines, lots of scheduled classes, indoor and outdoor pools but they even have community for you and your children!

Want to find something to do as a Family? The YMCA also has great opportunites to unwind and spend quality time as a family in a fun environment.  They offer everything from Family Craft Nights, Bingo, SuperBowl Party, Tie Dye night, and they even have a Valentines Dance party. What a great way to start making those memories in 2020! You can check the Friday Family Fun schedule right here. The best part is it's FREE! Talk about staying on budget and having fun...sounds like a win/win to me!

Every Saturday night you can drop off your littles at the YMCA from 5:30-8:30pm. That's right, you have 3 hours that the kiddos are enjoying supervised fun...which also means, DATE NIGHT!!! HOLLA! 3 hours of uninterrupted talk, movie or just together time with your partner. The kids are going to love it and the cost is so affordable at only $5 per child! How incredible is that! You can grab more information about Parent's Night Out HERE

Be sure and come out to the YMCA every Sunday where they offer Family Fun Day. That is a great time for members to take full advantage of their basketball courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and so much more. This is during regular business hours.

If you are looking for a change in 2020, be sure to give the YMCA a chance. I have 30-day family passes available so that you can see for yourself all that they offer. Leave a comment below if you want to snatch up one of these passes before they are gone.

Did you know that the YMCA has a Preschool?

When you think of the YMCA, what do you think of? I think of working out, swimming and community center. It never crossed my mind that they would have a preschool as well, but they do.

The YMCA offers half-day and full day preschool for your little ones between the ages of 3-5. They encourage hand on learning, I wish my kids had that when they were little.

I have had no experience with the preschool at the Y (my kids are middle schoolers now😲) but I have seen some of the kids going into class with their parents. They looked very excited and happy to be there.
This program is completely FREE to families who qualify!
If you are looking for a preschool for your little one be sure to check out the YMCA and see all that they have to offer.

You can find out more information HERE.

Want to be entered into a giveaway for a FREE Family 30-day pass to the YMCA?  Be sure to comment below to snag your pass today.

Is Aquafit for You? Check it out in Person for FREE!

Look at that refreshing water. It is so inviting, isn't it?!? I love swimming, it is my favorite sport. I actually lettered in Swim Team 3 years in high school.

Anyway, we are not here for all my high school memories. We are here to chat about the YMCA pool and the Aquafit class.

Last month, I didn't attend any classes. I just went to the gym, the outdoor pool and that was it. The classes can be very intimidating especially if you are going alone. So this month was about me just picking a class I wanted to check out and jumping out of that comfort zone of mine.

For those that don't know what Aquafit is, it's a water aerobic class that is in deep or shallow water. It is low impact. So if you have an injury or anything, this is great for movement without strenuous impact. That is one of the reasons I picked this particular class. I am having some major sciatic issues so I figured I would give this class a try and hope not to flare it up anymore.

The first thing I learned is that you should be in chest level water. I was in the shallow water to begin with which was a mistake because I am tall. I was unaware and figure I should tell you now so you are not like me. 😊 Don't be like Geri. I do have to say that I met lots of great people that thought it was hilarious that I was on my knees doing some of the moves because I was WAY too tall for where I was in the water.

I didn't really have big expectations on this Aquafit class. I thought we would just hangout in the water, kick a little bit, maybe walk around in the water fighting against the current of the water,  boy was I wrong. We used different pool equipment, noodles and weights. We used our body weight to float (core strength) while doing arm and leg exercises. This might not sound that hard, but it let's you know right away if your core needs additional help or not. When I left, I felt muscles that I forgot I had.

This wasn't a hard class it was a fun class that helped build on your core and strength gently. I had a great time and it was really fun. The people in the class were so friendly. I think they go everyday because they all seem to know each other but they welcomed new people in the class. I loved that.

This class had some cardio, strength training and helped with endurance all while being refreshed and cool in the water. We need that when the temperature in Vegas yesterday was 113 according to my car.

This class is great for all ages and levels. I even met someone in class that didn't know how to swim. She was in the shallow end and standing up the entire time so she was safe.

Don't forget that this is the last weekend that the YMCA outdoor pool will be open for this 2019 season. I know my kids will be sad to see it closed.

Would you like to try Aquafit or any of the other classes this month? I have some FREE 30 day family passes to give away if you are in Vegas. Leave a comment below with one thing you hope to accomplish this fall.
